Rationale: Preembedding immuno-EM reveals the presence of immunoreactivityfor MARCKS in some axons and axon terminals in the cingulate cortex. MARCKS is myristoylated and interacts additionally via a cluster of basic residues through electrostatic interactions with the plasma membrane (myristoyl-electrostatic switch). Phosphorylation of MARCKS induces translocation of the protein to the cytosol (Reference 1). MARCKS is detected both, in membrane and soluble fractions (Reference 2). An affinity purified antibody against rat MARCKS was generated in the study and the specificity of the antibody was confirmed by Western Blot (Fig. 1). No KO-control. 21/8/2017 Pim - Literal (abstract): "Electron microscopic analysis revealed immunoreactivity in axons, axon terminals, small dendritic branches, and occasionally in dendritic spines. In neuronal processes, immunoreactivity was particularly prominent in association with microtubules, but reaction product was also seen in cytosol and adjacent to plasma membranes. No reaction product was observed in large dendrites, somata, or nuclei.". Experimental description: Male Sprague-Dawley rats (150 gm) were anesthetized with ...
